ANEMIC CINEMA

An animated short film by Pablo Sigg

> > Extract

From a 10-minute scene of William Friedkin's film The Exorcist (1973) I extracted 13,704 frames that I digitally redrew one by one and printed out individually on paper. I then scanned each printed page and reconstructed again the sequence. It was more than a year of extraordinarily tedious and slow work, a kind of self-inflicted torture, a long cinematographic exorcism, which, contrary to liturgical exorcism, instead of expelling the enemy spirit, apprehended it in a series of images and words «possessed» in themselves, but dispossessed of the film; an anemic ghost without a shell.
